Miss Poglein’s 5th grade science class experimented to see how seismometers measure the severity of earthquakes by creating their own earthquake scenes.
Using a can, felt tip marker, and popsicle sticks, the students staged an earthquake and recorded its effects.
Our students in grades K-8 were treated to a lively look into the early life of our country’s founder George Washington with the CLO Gallery of Heroes performance Young Washington. The cast presented the challenges and adventure of dealing with the wilderness, French soldiers, and sometimes unfriendly Indians which Washington faced. The program highlighted his courage, resourcefulness , and leadership in helping our country first claim America for Britain and eventually achieve independence from British control. The students were amazed to learn the important part Western Pennsylvania played in Washington’s life. As a surveyor, he came to know the region well which became the site many of exploits, particularly his battles with the French over possession of Ft. Duquesne. The program was presented by the PTG.
St. Philip 1st and 3rd graders took part in America's Biggest Bed Time Story in a Webcast presented by Pizza Hut and the BookIt Program. Popular Pop Star Justin Bieber read the Dr. Seuss classic Cat in the Hat over the Internet. The children used their SmartBoard to see the event in life size mode. It was a great prpepartion for the upcoming celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday coming in early march.

Dear Parents:
On February 26th, we will be holding our annual Night at the Races. As you may know, this is our biggest fund raiser of the year for our school. This year, the PTG has decided to extend the fun to our students by sponsoring a contest among homerooms. In order to promote sales of race horses, we will be awarding a Jeans day to the homeroom that sells the most horses. We need everyone’s help to insure the success of this year’s event!
Order forms for horses were sent home in the most recent Family Information Packet. If you need more forms, please contact the school office and they will be sent home.
Thank You,
SPS PTG
Congratulations to Nathan Kirsch, Erin Joyce, and Maddie Hoff for each placing 3rd in their respective age groups at theElks Regional Division Hoop Shoot.
It's the 100th day of school and the classes found lots of ways to represent the number 100. The teachers gave the students 100 ways to combine learning with fun!
