St. Philip School

Faith Expression

St. Philip School School philosophy exists in every aspect of school life. All that we do is based on our philosophy of who we are as an educational entity endeavoring to instill a Catholic life and quality education in the young people whom we serve. We believe in the holistic approach to education exemplified through the teaching of religion and gospel values. St. Philip School provides a versatile program which recognizes the uniqueness of all individual students and incorporates this into the curriculum.

Students attend Mass regularly with the whole school and as a class. The students participate in planning the liturgy, act as lectors, altar servers and some participate in the choir. Formal instructional programs for reception of the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation are part of the curriculum of the appropriate grades and the students are given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation with their class at least twice a year. The entire student body joins in prayer and reflection at the beginning of the school day with the principal over the public address system.

G.R.A.C.E. Program

The students also experience many forms of traditional Catholic worship in the G. R. A. C. E. Program. Gifts Re-Affirming a Catholic Education, is a special project that has the dual purpose of fund raising while giving the children the opportunity to gather once a month and experience many of traditional Catholic forms of religious expression while praying for those who support the school or who are in need of prayer. School families, parishioners, or friends may request remembrance in the monthly G. R. A. C. E. celebration by sending a note to the school office or by picking up a form near the ramp entrance of the church. The person requesting prayers for a living or deceased loved one will in turn receive a card appropriate for the request (recent death, anniversary of death, new baby, wedding anniversary, birthday, special achievement or occasion, thank you, special intention, mother's day, father's day) to and to the person to be remembered or his family. The names of both the person enrolled and the donor are published monthly in the parish bulletin. There is no set amount requested for a donation and funds from this program go directly to support school projects. There is a monthly paraliturgical service at which the students pray by name for the intentions of both the donors and those enrolled. The prayer services include rosary, benediction, stations of the cross, novena, liturgical dance, meditation, exploration of the lives of the saints and other traditional forms of Catholic worship.

G.R.A.C.E. (Gifts Reaffirming A Catholic Education) programs are held monthly throughout the school year. Donors may make a donation to the school in the name of someone in need of prayer. The children then pray for the intentions of these donors during the topical programs. The programs tentatively scheduled for the 2006 -2007 school year include:
